HIRE A PRO?

I am so grateful for Charlie's tips and social media class. However...I don't have her talents and have a novel to promote. Does anyone have experience with hiring a service to raise visibility? Any recommendations? Slams? Did the marketer/promoter get resuts?

Why you should have social media accounts for your writing and what content to add

A big thing to note here is that you should have social media accounts even if you aren't published yet.

You don't have to become a social media influencer when you start your social media accounts. Instead, focus on creating your brand. If you think social media is superficial and that brands are lies, then that's exactly what your accounts will become. Pretty lies with no authenticity.

The point of having social media accounts as a writer (preferably Twitter, a Facebook page, Instagram, and a TikTok) is to create a way for your future fans to find you and interact with you. People like to see the gradual successes of the people they are following. You're a writer and not published yet? You'll find people cheering you on. But how to get to this point is to take the first step. Create your social media accounts and begin the journey…

Lastly, ya'll, like Charlie said Canva is a great resource for editing posts! I also discovered the app Picsart yesterday. I was busy trying to wrap up work but also wanted to post something to AWOW's instagram, so I decided to download Picsart and made this post. It's super helpful, convenient, and easy to use!

How and When to Use Hashtags

Hi everyone!

My qualifications for this are that I have a Certification in Technical Writing with a focus on Social Media.

Some quick tips:

  1. We should only use hashtags on Twitter and Instagram. Facebook hashtags are not consistently used. Also, Facebook algorithms don't promote hashtags as much as other platforms, so it becomes wasted effort and clutter on your posts.

  2. For Twitter and Instagram, hashtags help to promote yourself by making your posts more visible.

  3. DO NOT use the same hashtags every time you post. The general rule of thumb is only to use a hashtag once a week (ex. #writingcommunity on Monday and then using it again the following Monday). If every post or a majority of posts uses the same hashtag, you can be shadow-banned by the platforms. This means Instagram or Twitter will not notify you, but these social media platforms will make it harder for people…

This is super helpful!! Thanks so much for going into such detail. As for hashtags on TikTok, from my experience the algorithm is terrible ("unpredictable"). Say if you're a true crime content creator, you'd make hashtags like #truecrime #documentary #reallife but from what I've noticed big TikTokers doing is including random hashtags also like #DidYouYawn #CanYouRelate #WorldCup2022. I'm not sure if this is intentional or if they're just automatically added, but I'd recommend giving that a try. (I still have yet to do it but eventually I will lol)
